Professor Gad Degani holds the position of Emeritus Professor of Biology at the Faculty of Science, Tel-Hai University, and is a senior researcher at MIGAL – Galilee Research Institute, Kiryat Shmona, Israel.
His work spans four decades of research into aquatic organisms — from the ecology of amphibians in the semi-arid habitats of northern Israel, to the hormonal regulation of reproduction in commercially important fish species, and the molecular mechanisms underlying sex determination in sturgeon for caviar production.
Professor Degani conducts field research across northern Israel's most ecologically significant landscapes, including the Hula Valley, Upper Galilee, Golan Heights, and Mount Hermon. Key research sites include Zavitan Stream, Dan Stream, and the Sasa breeding pools — critical habitats for Salamandra infraimmaculata populations.
